The University of Iowa’s Department of Neurosurgery provides world-class neurosurgical care for patients suffering from a wide range of diseases and disorders affecting the brain, spine and peripheral nervous system.
Over 6,000 patients per year are referred to our outpatient by primary care providers, neurologist and other neurosurgeons from the across the state of Iowa, other regions of the United States and overseas.
Our faculty neurosurgeons have specialized expertise in every aspect of neurosurgical care. This includes brain tumor and epilepsy surgery, spinal surgery, neuromodulation treatments for movement disorders and pediatric neurosurgery.
We perform over 3,000 major neurosurgery operations per year at the University of Iowa Health Care’s medical center on the university campus, which is one of the nation’s largest university owned hospitals.
As an academic neurosurgery unit, our department also plays a leading role in conducting research that advances the fields of neuroscience and neurosurgery. Our faculty direct some of the most highly cited and impactful scientific research programs in the field of neurosurgery.
We also train the next generation of neurosurgeons in our neurosurgery residency program, and graduates of our program hold faculty positions in major university medical centers around the nation.
Our highly experienced group of neurosurgeons, nurses, administrative and support staff work seamlessly together to accomplish our primary mission: delivering outstanding neurosurgical care for our patients.
