Researchers say they have found an area of the amygdala that may prevent breathing in patients with treatment-resistant epilepsy as well as an alarm mechanism that alerts someone to breathe after air hunger. Results of novel experiments show that the loss of breathing and that alarm mechanism may be triggers for sudden unexpected death in epilepsy.
